I have been wanting to create a large terrarium for a long time now. So I decided to makeover our card box from our wedding. This DIY was so fun to watch my terrarium mood board come to life.
First you will need to decide on what kind of terrarium you would like to create. You’ll either want to create an open or enclosed terrarium. The difference in the two are mostly the types of plants you will be using.
What you’ll need
- Plants! If you’re creating an open terrarium like the one I made you’ll want to use plants that prefer dryer conditions. If you decide to go with an enclosed terrarium you’ll want to choose plants that are tropical and prefer more moisture.
- Terrarium/container
- Potting Soil
- Pebbles
- Horticultural Charcoal
- Extras, I used a crystal and decorative stones
Step 1
Add your pebbles to the bottom of your terrarium. This helps with drainage.
Step 2
Add in the horticultural charcoal. This helps with drainage and nutrients for the plants.
Step 3
Add your top soil.
Step 4
Place your plants into the terrarium. I like to arrange them where I want them first. Once you’re set on the layout you can plant them. After the succulents are planted you can add in moss, decorative crystals and stones.
